........Giovanni Tartaglia was born on November 21, 1985, and was raised in the Campania regions of southern Italy, Caserta and Naples. In 1994, at the age of eight, his father decided to move to the United States where Giovanni's grandfather had been living for over forty years. Since then, Giovanni and his family adapted to a new life here in America, settling in the beautiful city of San Diego, California. ........During his early teens, Giovanni had many hobbies besides film, varying from magic & illusionism, a deep interest in space and science, and a passion for music as well. While working on his film career, he also began recording songs for independent songwriters & producers, as well as covers from famous R&B and Rock artists. He went on to win various singing contests along the way. Intrigued by so many arts, Filmmaking remained his primary passion. .......When he was twelve years old, his father bought the first videocamera to capture images of family trips and special moments. Ever since, he was hooked. Giovanni's father realized that he handled the camera well, "My parents would be surprised at how smooth and steady the footage looked", Giovanni explains, "Unlike most common home videos which are usually shaky and out of focus". As the era of DVD began to evolve, Giovanni's passion for filmmaking increased as he loved the behind-the-scenes documentaries they featured, revealing the secrets of the hard work that goes into every film. He would spend hours, days, and months creating short video segments using stop-motion to animate action figures, and making short films with the help of his younger brother and friends, attempting to re-create the camera angles and movements used by famous directors. He was very influenced by directors such as, Ron Howard (Apollo 13, Ransom), Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Blade Runner), Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones), Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, The Departed), and his favorite of all, Christopher Nolan (Memento, Inception). Giovanni's first experience on a professional film set was at the early age of fifteen, landing a position as a second-unit camera operator intern for an independent local production company based in San Diego, CA. During that time he had already created his own personal website. During his high school career, Giovanni was involved in various classes that prepared him with the basics of an introduction in film. He became a member of the school's theatrical department, in which he was then chosen as stage manager and assistant director for a few of the school plays. Working in theater helped Giovanni understand various acting techniques and working around actors. He also enrolled in a photography course, and a video editing class that taught the basics of non-linear digital editing. After high school, Giovanni went on to study film at LAFS (The Los Angeles Film School) located in Hollywood, CA. There he learned everything from producing, to screenwriting, editing, and lighting. He graduated in 2008 with a focus in Directing. His thesis film for school, which he wrote, produced & directed, is entitled "A LIFE WITHIN". It is a 21 minute psychological suspense drama about a man's life and family haunted by strange visions, eventually leading to the shocking truth behind the mystery of what his life may really be. .......Though Giovanni loves to keep his audiences on the edges of their seats, he believes an artist should be versatile and able to pursue any style and form. Comedy is another genre he enjoys working with. Gaining popularity amongst his friends and family for his impersonations, he went on to create a comedy-spoof miniseries entitled, "The SCARFACE Chronicles", in which Giovanni himself portrays a modern version of Tony Montana in comedic situations and famous movies themes. Giovanni has proven to show his talents not only behind the camera, but on the screen as well! |
